Those who are fortunate enough to call Westerville home know it is "just right." And word is getting around - in 2007 Money Magazine named Westerville a Top 50 American Town. The same year, the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the gold medal for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management for Class IV. More recently, readers of Columbus Parent rated it as the best place in central Ohio to raise a family. These accolades are well deserved, due to its exemplary schools and safety services, recreational amenities, support for local arts and civic organizations, a 96,600-square-foot community center, and a library that is consistently rated as one of the best of its size in the United States. It is also home to Otterbein College, a private, four-year liberal arts college. Westerville is the largest suburb of Columbus, with a population of nearly 36,000. The majority of households in Westerville consist of married couples and families with children under 18, reflecting the town's family-friendly milieu.

Westerville Schools

The Westerville City School District is considered one of central Ohio's best public school system, and is the 10th largest district in the state, serving roughly 14, 250 students. For the 16th year in a row, Westerville City Schools was awarded the "What Parents Want" education designation from SchoolMatch, an educational research and database service firm. The district also earned a rating of "Excellent" from the Ohio Department of Education's 2008 State Report Card. The total number of schools in the district is 23, including 16 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools. Westerville City Schools' graduation rate is an exemplary 94.6%, and over 80% of its high school graduates pursue post-secondary studies.
